THE DON'TS AND DO'S OF CELEBRATING ST. PATRICK'S DAY DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC
In the U.S. and abroad, celebrating St. Patrick’s Day is something that happens in a public manner. There would be large parades with many people packed into bars and restaurants. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, St. Patrick's Day will look a lot different compared to the years past.
As many new variants of COVID-19 are emerging across the globe and a slow vaccine rollout, people will have to be patient a bit longer and continue to socially distance. However, that does not mean you don't have to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Here are the do's and don'ts of celebrating this holiday during the COVID-19 pandemic.
COLLEGE FRIENDSHIPS MADE DURING COLLEGE QUARANTINE WITH SUGAR AND OATMEAL PACKETS
College life has not been the same as it once was with the COVID-19 pandemic. Students who want to find community and a sense of community face hardships with having the college experience during the COVID-19 pandemic. Luckily, I met a group of friends who were eating dinner at the DePaul University Student Center who made a group of friends during their first weeks living on campus as freshmen at the residence halls. Having a sense of community during a global pandemic is hard to build, but this one friend group were able to build friendships during the mandatory two week quarantine students living on campus had to face while they arrived at the university to help stop the spread of COVID-19. When eating my dinner I realized how these groups of students were close with each other within a week after they got out of quarantine. This is the story of that friend group and how they built community,
GEOFF STELLFOX WEBSITE
I had the chance to read and look at the content of writer and photojournalist Geoff Stellfox on her personal website. The story THE GOSPEL. ACCORDING TO MAMA LOU. The story has a main theme of showing how Lou Della Evans-Reid has done her work as a minister of music at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church as well as proving how she is a likable person within her community and at home.
The photos that Stellfox chooses all evoke various emotions Lou and her colleagues experience while Stellfox is in her role as a minister of music. First off, the caption of one of the photos tells the audience how Lou blushes in embarrassment when she is recognized at her 89 birthday party at the Greater Cathedral Tabernacle. Her face is covered with her hand and she is seen grinning while another colleague next to her is grinning as well. The caption also mentioned how for her birthday many choirs come together to celebrate her contribution of gospel music in the church. Another photo shows Lou at work directing as a guest director for the choir at Greater Grace Church in Merrillville. The caption also states how Lou received an invitation to guest direct even though she is retired The photo conveys how lively many of the singers are when their mouths are wide open.
The photos and text compliment one another as we learn that Lou is retired and is still doing work. We would not have known this if it were from the pictures. Also, the pictures add more character to these people as we see how they look like and see them in action. The text can describe what these people are like and how they look like but having pictures gives the true sense of what these people look like.
